On the programme is William Byrd's heavenly Mass for Four Voices as well as a rare collection of motets from the Tudor age.

William Byrd lived a dangerous life as a devout Catholic in post-Reformation England. Much of his Latin-texted music was therefore conceived and sung in secret. Despite terrible warnings, Byrd and his Catholic friends continued to celebrate the Mass in secret gatherings behind closed doors. He wrote three fabulous settings of the Mass, two volumes of Gradualia, and a collection of 109 pieces of music for the Catholic Church year, most likely sung with just one singer on each voice. It is music of intense emotion, comfort and hope which seems more relevant than ever.

Cantus Avium Copenhagen is a solo-voice ensemble consisting of four singers: Marie-Louise Zervides (soprano), Nanna Varmer Ipsen (alto), Nils Greenhow (tenor) and Adam Leckius (bass). For this concert, the group will also be joined by Emil Fredberg (tenor).
