Christmas Carol Services
You are warmly welcomed to attend this year's Christmas Carol Services, which will be on Sunday 10th December at 4pm and Monday 11th December at 7pm.
Following the traditional format of Nine Lessons and Carols, the readings will tell the story from the fall of humanity to the birth of Jesus, interspersed with festive choir anthems and congregational carols.
This year's carols will include favourites from the English and Danish churches:
- Once in royal David's city
- Unto us is born a Son
- Dejlig er jorden
- O little town of Bethlehem
- While shepherds watched their flocks by night
- O come, all ye faithful
- Hark! the herald angels sing
The choir music will include a selection of Christmas music from the 16th-century to the present day:
- Sally Beamish - In the stillness
- Boris Ord - Adam lay ybounden
- William Byrd - Puer natus est nobis
- Michael Praetorius & Melchior Vulpius - Es ist ein Ros entsprungen
- David Willcocks - Gabriel's message
- David Allen - Hush, my dear
- Healey Willan - Hodie, Christus natus est
Doors will open half an hour before each service, with a short organ recital on variations on the Lutheran Christmas chorale Vom himmel hoch, da komm ich her.
